Shay, our Founder, created the Lawyer Bae™ Brand when she thought she would quit law school. On the heels of her first semester, she felt burned out. Not only was the law school environment intense, but jurisprudence was a foreign language. Furthermore, the lack of diversity and creativity left her feeling drained. Daily, the crushing pressure and stress of navigating the dreaded 1L year slowly spoiled the newness and excitement of the experience. At the end of 1L year, Shay was seriously pondering whether law school was for her. In July 2017, Shay realized that her doubts were nothing more than a serious case of “imposter syndrome.” She, a black woman and first-generation law student, had earned the right to matriculate in law school. In fact, it would be a travesty if she were to fold under the pressure. Riding that wave, Shay created the Lawyer Bae ™ apparel brand to encourage herself and others first-generation law students and attorneys to do one thing: keep striving. For Shay, Lawyer Bae™ is really about not giving up. She decided to Believe in herself, Affirm positive thoughts, and Execute according to plan. In the end, Shay graduated law school and passed the bar on the first try.
